Having access to high interest reading materials for guided reading will help my students to not only learn and apply the reading skills that they lack but it will also encourage them to read more which is important for struggling learners. I am requesting sets of informational text read-alongs to use in guided reading groups. I have found that most of the lower level literature currently available to my special needs students is outdated and does not engage them in reading. Our classroom is in need of higher interest text to use during our reading groups so that students will be engaged in reading, read more and as a result grow into more competent and confident readers.
