My students are highly inquisitive and energetic first graders. They are primarily African-American students from one of the most high-needs regions of the country, the Mississippi Delta (Greenville). Many of them have barely left the neighborhood around the school, let alone Greenville, the region or the state of Mississippi, although Arkansas is just a few miles away over the Mississippi River. I try to encourage my students' inquisitiveness, and let them know that there is a big world of opportunities that will open up to them through getting a good education. I try to teach them to love learning, and to think outside of the box.
