We are planting an outdoor garden in raised beds at my school with the kindergarten and first-grade students. I have bought the raised beds already. We need one more. I will use the plants with the children for the garden. They need gloves for their small hands. I have purchased trowels already.
Many of my students do not have access to land or to gardens to see how food grows. Many of my children are learning social and academic English. They are learning how plants are living things and I hope for them to transfer that knowledge and apply this experience to their every day lives. They will keep journals where they will document the growth and changes in their plants. They will plant and water the garden daily. I hope to have a brunch with the produce from our garden in the late summer with my students, and invite their parents.
