Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flex Space comfy floor seats and pillows allows students to choose their location and positions as needed. Students can find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen and blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused.
Studies consistently show that classroom design matters to how children engage, participate, and ultimately stay involved in their learning experience.
I will utilize Flex space seating as a non-disruptive solution for my individual students who tend to move during direct instruction. Small groups will be able to use flexible seating during reader’s workshop to read in small groups and have peer-to-peer discussion. Last, but not least, flexible seating will be used during one-on-one instruction as well!
My classroom environment should be open to collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. This cannot be done in traditional row-by-column seating. The transition to a student-centered classroom will support different modes of learning in order to keep children engaged in their education. Please consider a donation to help create a more active, engaged, enthusiastic, and relaxed room of students!
