A classroom rug is the centerpiece of the classroom community! It is the place where the class gathers as a group for morning meeting to begin the day with greetings, sharing, and community interaction. We also gather together on the rug for lessons and learning.
When students feel like they are part of a community, the classroom becomes a safe place for growth, risk-taking, and lots of learning. Many of my students are English Language Learners and need a supportive classroom community to help them feel confident and willing to take risks in their learning. A classroom rug is an integral way to create this important bridge to learning.
