I would like to align the novels being taught in my Language Arts class to the content being taught in the History classroom for both 6th and 7th grade. The Dear America series of books really helps students to understand a time period in history better than just reading it straight from a textbook.
Students will have the opportunity to see history through the eyes of a child close to their age. The novels I have chosen cover coming to America on the Mayflower, and living during the Revolutionary War. I believe both of these novels will not only enrich my Language Arts classroom, but will also have a positive effect in the History classroom as well.
