I have spent four utterly meaningful and engaging days at a professional development seminar at the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching.
During this time, I have learned how incredibly valuable it would be for my students if I were to front load content - in the form of a video presentation - assigned for homework so that they can then return to class the next day ready to engage with me on a much higher level of engagement.
I have chosen these supplies from Amazon for very specific reasons:
The document camera will allow me to project presentations and/or documents onto my board, as well as to record myself visually and audibly from a bird's eye "magic hands" perspective. Watching me manipulate French verb endings, for example, will be extremely helpful for my students who are kinesthetic learners.
The easel, paper, and pens will allow for a "video-able" surface on which to write as I teach a given concept to my students. I can flip the pages as I present additional content. I would film myself standing right next to the easel as I do this so that my students can watch my facial expressions and body gestures.
The tripod will allow me to hold my iPhone for recording my videos.
The bluetooth headphones will allow me to record my audio directly into my iPhone without any distortion or ambient noise.
I believe strongly that this method of instruction will facilitate sustained and significantly more meaningful learning for all of my students. What's more, I believe that this will create a connection with my parents who will then be able to watch the same videos with their child and be able to work in partnership with me to ensure their child's optimal academic success.
