The young adults in our program, aged 18 - 22, have all the hormones, sexual urges, feelings, and desires of their typically developing peers. Our young adults must be taught the facts of sexual health, how to process what they hear from peers, and must be taught the social skills to meet any of these needs or avoid victimization.
We hope to get the presentation materials and student supplies specified in our planned-parenthood adapted curriculum to start our first year of providing this education, that has been so missing from our student population. We have two teachers who are trained in teaching this curriculum, we need easel pads and markers which allow us to have interactive engagement in multiple modalities. Each lesson in the curriculum starts with a name-tag activity that teaches and reinforces about consent regarding their body. The students need binders to keep the visual handouts in one place on this subject for improved retention of the material.
