When my class was moved to a different school this summer, I discovered that the new school has no kitchen for us to use. Our classroom doesn't have space for the full-sized range and oven we had last year. So, we must make due with the space we have. Cooking is an important part of our program and we really want to keep it going.
As part of our program last year, we cooked every Friday. We learned about reading and following directions, different types of measurement tools, gathering ingredients, and collaboration skills. Our plan for this year is to also go shopping once a month for our supplies and continue to cook one day a week. We also want to sell our goodies during lunchtime recess to continue with our learning about money.
