At the beginning of the school year my curriculum allows me to select a "Coming of Age" novel for my students to read. Over the course of this year I have had a plethora of students that either hate reading, or have never found the pleasure or point. I gave the book "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" to a group of students that were struggling. Not only were they engaged with the material of identity, but they were actually asking me questions that pertained to the plot. For the first time, my students were asking me to send them to the library during their lunch so that they could continue reading. This book was essential to their reading journey. They learned to love reading and I would love to do that for more of my students. I am requesting a class set of The Perks of Being a Wallflower for my students.
