A huge part of the Next Generation Science Standards are waves. The content ranges from basic parts to a wave to how waves can be used to transmit information. It can be a difficult topic to teach because most examples of waves that we study are not visible. We cannot see sound waves. We cannot see electromagnetic waves. We cannot see the waves the our technology utilizes every day for communication.
The waves kit allows the teacher and students to see how waves work. They can see the relationships between frequency, wavelength, and amplitude. It will take an abstract concept and make it real for the students. Instead of learning concepts from a book, students will be able to make a hypothesis and test it on their own. First hand discoveries are more meaningful and lasting than reading a series of facts out of a book.
