Having a class set of ukuleles fosters love for music and gives students the chance to learn an instrument and then use that skill to creatively compose their own songs about math and reading skills. They then can use their 1 to 1 ipads to learn to record their music and add that STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) element.
Learning how to play an instrument has been proven to reduce anxiety, boost confidence, and foster a love for learning. Do you remember songs your teacher used to help you remember things like multiplication facts or maybe an ELA strategy? Imagine students being able to create these songs and learn everything that goes into that process. Imagine how much more they will learn about the topic their song is about and how much they will enjoy learning.
What kind of class would you have wanted to be in as a child or would you like to see your children or grandchildren in? A class of drills, worksheets, and memorization or a classroom that allows students to think critically, and to create and innovate while gaining real substantial knowledge. Knowledge they can carry with them over a lifetime. Lets get these kids creating!
