A resource room is an amazing place in my school where students with various challenges to their learning can have their needs met. Oftentimes, students with disabilities have needs related to sensory and attention that are not well met by having them sit at a traditional desk to complete tasks. My students will use standing desks to be able to stand, rather than sit while completing work. They will have sensory needs met by using cushions, wiggle chairs, and yoga balls that will allow movement while they work. Use of lap desks for floor work, and bean bag chairs for comfortable seating remove the obstacles to learning that a lack of seating choices presents.
My students deserve to have an environment that is inclusive, and supportive to their needs. When given the chance to work on the floor, at a standing table, or on a movement seat such as a ball chair, they are able to reach their potential and give their all to learning and growing.
