These seating choices will help my learners who NEED to move. I want to maintain positive relationships with my wiggly learners. If I allow them to release energy in a positive, constructive way, they will stay focused and motivated. A standing desk will help a boy who needs to stand while reading and writing. Balls and stools will help students who need to bounce or wiggle. Two of my students are always toppling to the floor when leaning in standard chairs.
I love to give my students choice in their seating in my class. Research shows choice is a human need, and it's a priority in my classroom. Since implementing flexible seating I've seen discipline problems decrease, and my students take ownership and pride in their space and classroom. I want a variety of choices so all learners can have something available that works best for them, to help foster collaboration and focus.
