Some of my students are reading two grade levels below where they should be and many are English learners. This listening center will allow my lower level readers to listen to a story while they are following along in the book, helping to improve their reading level. It will also allow my on grade level and above grade level readers to challenge themselves by listening to higher level books. I plan to use the listening center as one of my Daily 5 centers. I will meet with each group prior to their rotation into the listening center to talk about the book they will be listening to. It will help them become more successful readers and encourage them to read more. This will help with my goal of turning my students into lifelong readers. And who doesn’t like being read to?
