With the numerous challenges and increased stress brought about by the pandemic and remote learning, I came to the conclusion that my students needed space within the school to take a step back, breathe, and check-in with me and one another. I decided to incorporate different aspects of wellness into the classroom such as breathing techniques, guided meditations, and short stretching and yoga videos. I found that there was a lot of interest among my students to engage in conversations related to self-care and that it was important for them to know that their teacher cared about both their academic and personal development and success. I believe that this training will equip me to be able to teach yoga practices as well as social-emotional techniques to my students as well as the school community and that these skills and practices will help facilitate a smooth transition to in-person learning. To achieve this goal, I am pursuing a 200-hour Digital Wellness, Social-Emotional (SEL), and Yoga Teacher Training For Educators to integrate wellness-focused practices into my classroom.
