It is my job as an English teacher to enrich my students' learning environment with opportunities that will help them progress in their English and academic skills and technological literacy. There are a myriad of online reading tools and programs that help students acquire new vocabulary and improve their reading skills, but most of my students do not have access to computers or tablets outside of school, so their only access to this technology is in the classroom. Unfortunately, my classroom is not equipped with enough computers for students to work outside of large groups, so opportunities for class-wide vocabulary games that use technology and individual use of technology for literacy are not available to my students.
I hope to have iPads in my English classroom to give students more opportunities to increase their reading skills and understanding of complex vocabulary while helping them to develop technological literacy at the same time.
