Kids use the library A LOT--for checkout, for classes, for clubs--but it is in need of a design upgrade. All three of these items are a starting place for enhancing the library environment. Our space and furniture feel awkward, and and we want to make it more welcoming and cheerful and cozy. Based on feedback from students, staff, and administration, we've chosen a new book return and some soft seating as a starting place!
These furniture pieces will make our library more comfortable and functional for students. Because our group carpet space is next to a main entrance, students have to walk through a class to return books at the circulation desk. This is uncomfortable for everyone! Students have said they would like to be able to drop books off right by the door, and a new book return will let them do that. It also means that books can be returned at times when the librarian isn't in!
Students would also like to have some soft seating for when they're reading or working with their friends in the library. We've tried beanbags in the past, but they just don't cut it! We're starting small with just two cubes, but if these work the way we're hoping we will be able to add more matching modules and really update our whole space. This will go a long way towards making our library the comfy, cozy place our students dream of!
