I am requesting materials such as Legos and magnetic tiles to help actively engage my students in their learning. The building materials I have requested will help students make connections between engaging and fun activities and the math and science concepts that they are being taught in class.
I teach a very diverse group of students, this year being my first with part inclusion. This group has many that learn best through hands-on learning to understand. Materials such as Legos, will help students in learning arrays and multiplication, Magna-tiles will help with playing with the concept of symmetry; all areas that are difficult to understand but with hands-on materials, it can be a little easier.
Building materials will give my students motivation to actively engage in creative learning. New building materials will also help students to recognize that learning can take place anywhere, with materials they already enjoy playing with. It will open their mind to STEM concepts and give them opportunity to make real life connections in their learning.
