Many of my students come from poor backgrounds. Much of the culture they are exposed to is only what they see in their neighborhoods. Being able to afford books to read throughout the school year is a necessity many of them can not afford. Many exhibit the want and desire to accomplish more, but are not afforded the opportunity.
