The “latest in technology” provides great excitement within the classroom and dramatically improves student interest and engagement. The Drone Flight Exploration course our JROTC program is implementing Fall 2018 capitalizes on technology and practical applications. The equipment (drone) we are hoping to acquire is a crucial piece of our increased focus on STEM.
Hands-on operation of drones ensures student interest, motivation, and engagement.
The equipment will introduce students to the evolving world of unmanned aircraft operations. Students will learn how Drones are being used in today’s world. Students will be introduced to Drone operations through classroom instruction, flight simulators, and actual flight operations. Classes will include Ground School, Air Traffic Control airspace, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Lab, and Weather. Students will gain an understanding of UAS (fixed wing and rotary), and have hands-on experience with the aircraft.
Our program recognizes that the equipment we are requesting is somewhat “pricey”. Our students, however, are motivated and have been fundraising with the possibility of supplementing any donations to acquire the equipment we need.
