Often students experience traumatic events at home and come to school unable to focus and be productive. The Peace Corner is a great way for students to be able to step away from what is bothering them, calm down, and refocus to join the class. This is a great life tool for teaching children how to manage stress and anger. The Lavievert Children Indian Canvas Teepee will provide students with a safe place to go and calm down where they can escape the stresses of the classroom. Inside the Teepee there are no peers to impress of save face for, it is just the child and a chance to step away from the situation. The Big Joe comfortable chairs will provide them a spot to curl up and deep breathe to help their bodies relax and allow them to be able to refocus. The fidget set will give students something to focus on, which in turn will help them to relax and calm down. The collection of yoga and other books are used to help students think about their feelings and to help them learn to regulate their emotions. All of these tools with work together in order to allow students the time-out from what is stressing them in order for them to calm down, reflect, and refocus. The students will use the sand timers to regulate their own break. The essential oils will help create a tranquil classroom environment allowing students to better focus as well as creating a soothing environment. All of these components will help to create a trauma sensitive classroom that provides children not only the opportunity to thrive, but the tools they require to create life long skills for dealing with anger and stress in a healthy way.
