My anatomy students will participate in a 2 week forensic unit. Our science department creates a crime scene in which a murder was committed and they must perform several labs to determine who the killer is. Part of the unit is to take fingerprint evidence from the crime scene. Using the equipment requested will give them the hands on opportunity and exposure to real life forensic and data collection. On the first day of the unit we stage a crime scene and allow the students to look around collecting evidence. We give them fingerprint evidence, footprint impressions, blood splatter, witness statements, and suspect interviews. The students have to take all of the evidence and determine the correct killer. This gives my students the opportunity to complete an entire forensic unit and learn about many topics throughout the experience.
