Children with Autism require lessons and tasks that are as individualized as they are. Using these supplies, I will be able to build lessons and tasks that meet my students at their individual levels. Due to the many times students need to practice lessons, many tasks are laminated to provide endurance as well as saving paper. Often laminated tasks will be cut into different parts that students will then organize in a meaningful way. For example, Students will be given laminated picture cards of cvc words and will then use laminated letters to velcro the words to the corresponding picture. Hands on manipulatives allow for counting, sorting, comparisons, one to one correspondence, and numerous other skills. Learning games not only teach academic skills, but also teach students much needed social skills such as paying attention, taking turns, how to be a good winner/loser, and also give an alternative to the traditional lessons that my students do not respond well to. These items will bring many new tasks and learning experiences to our classroom.
