Throughout this year we have often gathered at our meeting spot on the floor to do group reading, lessons and projects. Due to the lack of funding, my students have had to sit on the hard, cold tile.
It has become customary for me to ask them to join me, "on the imaginary rug." This makes it difficult for them to pay attention, concentrate and learn as they are constantly shifting their bodies on the cold tile. It also doesn't provide them boundaries for a sitting location, as there are no boarders to our imaginary rug.
Providing a place for them to go sit and learn would drastically improve quality carpet time within my classroom.
