Math time can either my students' favorite or least favorite time of day. It all depends on how the material is presented. I have found that most students enjoy math more and learn more efficiently when there are manipulatives present. Students who struggle in math are particularly fond of using manipulatives as it transforms math into something concrete they can see rather than an abstract idea only visible in their heads.
Building a basic foundation in number sense and beginning mathematics is essential in the younger grades. The more they enjoy the lessons and activities, the more easily they learn the material. I have some manipulatives in my classroom but am lacking many different tools that could help my students better grasp number concepts. The manipulatives provided in the math toolboxes I have selected include everything each student needs to help them learn the concepts taught in first grade. Each kit is also neatly organized and easily stored-aspects very important to teachers in the lower grades!
I am confident that these toolboxes will benefit learners of all levels and abilities!
