The students in my transitional kindergarten classroom are typically behind either in their fine motor skills, pre-reading, math, or social skills. Providing these children with manipulatives to build and create gives them an opportunity to not only add fun into their day, but also foster a love of learning. Building with all different types of materials can help strengthen their fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, and hand strength. Using the Magna Tile Magnets will encourage children to explore geometry shapes and work together towards a common goal, using their social skills to interact with one another. The Big Bolt Construction set lets kids use safe plastic hammers and wrenches to connect the chunky bolts, wheels, and joints. As the children build, they boost planning and motor skills. The Gear Builders also allow children to explore and arrange the motion of gears to build unique moving constructions. All of these manipulatives will help children figure out how the world around them works, how things go together, and how to use their creativity to invent and build the pieces to play wherever their imagination takes them!
