By building my classroom library, students will be able to have additional resources to check out and read at home. Many do not have the means to get to our public library, nor can they afford to buy their own books on a regular basis. We do have a school library, but it, too, is limited and services hundreds of students pre-k through 8th grade. Our middle school (grades 6-8) do not have a regularly scheduled time to access the library and can only check out books upon request.
By housing a library of books that are targeted to the middle school demographic, I will be better able to not only get books in the hands of my students but also hold a wide range of topics so that students can explore the many types of literature out there.
