Students within my K-2 classroom are on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Students work on grade level academics, but need the academics in a slower repetitive manner. The classroom allows students to move, express themselves and build independence. We work on receptive and expressive language, fine and gross motor skills, academic concepts and social learning; to build a foundation that allows students to learn at their own pace and build their independence. We do fun learning in the afternoon, working on academics: playing games, science experiments, crafts, book studies to name a few activities. Students come in with an abundance of energy, excitement and willingness to learn. They do their best with structure, special grade level curriculum and supportive resources. I am surprised every day with how my students overcome their disability to meet challenges they face, they inspire me to bring my A game.
