These materials will be used to meet the exceptional needs of my students in our special day class. Our class focuses on functional skills and basic academic concepts, emphasizing appropriate school behavior all the while managing different sensory needs and various behaviors at school. For this project, I requested a real-life cash register. A real-life scenario helps my students learn functional skills regarding the real world and money handling while making it fun! Some other items I requested are wall posters and calendar items; these items will be referenced during our morning meeting each morning.
Some of the materials include building structure into the classroom. When I first came to this classroom, there was not a lot of structure built into the classroom. Structure, in my opinion, is the most important piece to having a successful classroom. I have been working really hard to embed structure into the classroom, so the students know what to expect. When a person knows what is expected of them, they are more likely to meet the standards of what it is that's expected. My goal is to build structure, and to accomplish all of our goals.
I truly love this group and this classroom. We are life-long learners!
