A lectern/podium will take the discussion out of the classroom and into the real world. To better engage my readers with a text, I often bring up interesting discussion points that create students to take a side or make a stand about a characters action. Students enjoy arguing or explaining why they are right. I like to capitalize on my students ability to argue when it comes to literature we are reading. I require students to use their text and sometimes additional research to prove why they are correct and the other students are incorrect. A lectern/podium will allow me to capitalize on my 7th grade students need to win a debate and allow them to feel like they are participating in the real world rather than a mock activity in the classroom.
