In our classroom crew, we emphasize hard work and putting forth a strong effort. But, all work and no play makes students bored and disengaged. That is why I wanted to develop a classroom set of exciting and engaging math and science games to enrich our classroom culture, build fundamental math skills and to enhance collaboration and competition in the math classroom.
Mindset is everything in the classroom. Far too often, students describe themselves as "not good at math", don't understand the real-world connections to basic mathematics or are afraid to take risks with numbers and logic. I believe that by engaging in fun, interesting, cooperative and competitive math games regularly in the classroom, that not only will students develop a strong number sense that is crucial to high level mathematics, but will also dispel some of the anxiety around numbers that so many people have.
