I teach in an urban neighborhood in San Francisco, CA. The majority of our students do not know a life of privilege. We depend on state services in order for our children to have daily lunch, adequate after school care and activities like soccer and music. Our families work multiple jobs at minimal pay in order to pay rent and provide what they can for their children. Therefore, our Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is only able to reimburse teachers up to $50 on school supplies for the entire year. Due to the dedication of the staff and teachers, our students are very well cared for and educated to the fullest of our capacity but it is necessary to reach out for support and ask for help.
