During reading class students are expected to have an independent reading book. Because we can't always make it to the library, these books will supplement our classroom library. My students are such voracious readers that we need to expand our collection.
Students are more likely to read what they love! The books in this project are chosen by students based on interests, favorite authors, and new fiction award winners. When the books arrive, students will conduct a book walk and have the ability to look at every new book in the collection. Students will add books they want to read to their someday lists, and start reading!
More reading will yield better readers in time (fluency), which means more success in the long run for my kids. Newly published works are exciting and have the ability to interest students who never thought they liked to read into.
