The 49 young adult novels will help my students develop their multi-genre project. The novels will give my students a creative outlet--a respite from an otherwise intense school day.
Students will use the novels to create their multi-genre research project We will also use the readings to engage in honest discourse about teen choices and consequences, various political issues, and simply rediscover the joy of reading.
The classroom library will give each student a chance to select a novel that best suits their interest. Next, they will analyze the societal conflicts found in the novel. Research the causes and effects of that conflict and present their information to their peers. Thus, the novel will act as a springboard for many essential literacy skills: analysis, research, discourse, etc.
