I have had the pleasure of teaching both Physical Science and Biology to high school students for 5 years. Of those 5 years though, we have never had a class set of laboratory coats for our students to wear as they conduct various experiments. As we know, there is power in what we see. For decades now, there has been a push to increase the amount of African American and Hispanic students who pursue STEM careers. I believe that wearing lab coats will empower my students, and allow them to see science majors and science careers in their future. It all begins with the white coat.
