I am a K-12 Business, Computer and Information Technology Teacher transitioning to high school after 11 years teaching computers in our elementary schools. I am so excited to see how my kids have grown since their younger days and want to inspire greatness heading into their adult years.
I want to create an environment for my students that is different than the traditional classroom, a place where they feel inspired to learn. We currently have no regular education classrooms that offer flexible seating and I would like to use this as a springboard to change the culture in our school. I believe that creating an environment where kids can be flexible encourages the 4 C's (communication, collaboration, critical thinking and creativity).
I will begin transforming my classroom over the summer months and hope to have it ready in the fall. I will be using the high top tables to add to 4 tall chairs I have and then the 2 stools for the 3rd table and hope to create a cafe style environment. The futon will be used as a couch and the end tables will hold lamps that I already have. I envision my students feeling comfortable, safe and loved in my classroom knowing that some may not receive this on a regular basis.
I’m also hoping that this will help change the way other teachers see the classroom space and help to change the culture in our school. Thank you for supporting me and my kids!
