Having tables will dramatically change our classroom culture for collaboration and make using our Kagan and AVID learning strategies more seamless. Research has shown that round and rectangular tables create an environment better suited for collaboration. For example, students are more engaged and may retain more information when the classroom is not set up lecture style, but instead has clusters of students at small tables or the entire class sitting in a circle.
Education today is vastly different from a decade ago.
Students tend to stay more engaged with collaborative work and interactive assignments. With tables, I hope to better create that learning environment. I truly believe that by allowing students to work and play in a setting that encourages a shared learning experience I will see many positive benefits:
• Increased excitement and a joy for learning
• Helps foster strong interpersonal relationships
• Allows students to learn from each other
• Enhances mentoring opportunities
• Brings classmates closer together to work as a team
• Increased opportunities for close cooperation
