Let's face it, our children were not made from cookie cutters, and we wouldn't want them to be. Flexible seating allows my students to take charge of their learning and have a choice in how this will happen. During independent and partner work time, my students are able to find a place in the classroom that helps them be the best- scientist, artist, author, detective- they can be. Whether they are sitting on the floor with clipboards, at their desks, or curled up at the carpet, I find they make their greatest discoveries when they are comfortable.
My students are more engages, less disruptive and are, most importantly, working and learning from each other, when they have the choice of where to sit and what to sit on.
The products that I have picked out will give my students alternative seating options, to help maximize growth and learning in the classroom. The wobble chiars, which are adjustable, will help students who need to get the "wiggles" out and allow them to refocus their attention on learning, as will the chair bands. Those will help students focus when working on independent work. The stability balls are also a great alternative to regular desk chairs and will help students who need to move, during whole group, carpet activities.
I have seen how having something as simple as a choice of seat can make a world of difference for some students. Having that choice helps them focus on their learning and gives them the opportunity to grow and be amazing!
