In my classroom, I try to find projects that will challenge my students to solve real-world problems. I would love to to add a 3-D printer with filament as a tool, so my kids can create, explore, learn and solve problems that they face in the real-world. I plan to use the printer as an extension to some of the curriculum that we learn during the year. They can create solutions dealing with modern issues from our science units such as the water cycle, weather, rocks and minerals, and/or animal adaptations and environments. For example, they can create an invention that could prevent erosion, or solve the world's water and drought issues. Along with science, there will opportunities to use the 3-D printer to support math skills such as, fractions, measurement, geometry and data collection. The possibilities are endless. By making this project available, my students will learn to problem solve and discover that learning can be exciting.
My students will also learn to work together, as well as becoming leaders in solving real-world problems.
The extra filament will allow the kids to work all year long on a variety of different projects. Our class will be so grateful to have this project in our classroom. Thank you for your consideration!
