Flexible seating will allow my learners to make choices in their day that promote success. I am constantly working towards providing options that allow movement and comfort-ability. My students enjoy standing up, sitting on the floor with clipboards, tapping their toes, sitting at horseshoe tables, or even sitting on the floor around the classroom. When my students have a choice in their seating I notice their attention and motivation increase.
My students spend the majority of their time sitting in our classroom and my goal is to make our classroom a space where they are able to be comfortable.
The items I have picked out for our classroom include stability cushions, wobble chairs, chair bands, lap desks, and inflatable bean bags. The stability cushions will help my students who need a little extra movement in their day and the wobble chairs will help my learners that struggle to sit still. Chair bands will help minimize the distraction of tapping toes, lap desks will allow them to spread out on the ground, and the inflatable bean bags will help them feel comfortable during independent work. The use and availability of flexible seating will help positively impact my students and their needs.
