Students will use this subscription to stay involved with current events while strengthening their literacy and comprehension. My students will be able to have consistent reading materials, specifically informational texts, that focus on current events and the news that matters to them. I chose TIME for Kids because many of my students do not have access to the internet for gaining knowledge of what's happening in the world. I also want them to have access to a variety of informational reading materials with writing and comprehension activities that correlate to the articles.
Many of my students come from a low socioeconomic status and have not traveled beyond a 5-10 mile radius of their neighborhood. TIME for Kids will allow students to journey to different places (through reading) which were otherwise unknown to them while learning about issues and events which affect their lives. Students will also increase their reading fluency by having something new and interesting to read about on a weekly basis. I want my students to feel empowered by knowledge and become aware of our world.
