Obtaining class sets of books can be difficult at times. Being able to read a book together in a small group as a novel study with special needs students is an amazing experience. They have so many opportunities to read and imagine as they listen to others read to them.
Reading in a small group gives students the opportunity to make mistakes and feel safe to do so. They are open to having meaningful discussions and listen to each other's thoughts and opinions. We also learn about events that we can relate to. Receiving Esperanza Rising will allow my students to read about characters that struggle but work hard to overcome challenges.
