High school is a time of life when students have a lot of interests competing for their attention. It is also a time of life when students need to be honing their reading skills in preparation for college or careers. Unfortunately, just when it is most important that students be reading widely, their other interests often interfere.
I want to show them that there are many people who read regularly for pleasure. I saw a display that a librarian at another school had put up that featured small posters with the names of students and teachers along with the picture of the cover of the book they were currently reading. It was wonderful! It extended down the hallway on either side of the library door. I would like to do a similar project at my school, but all we have available is a regular black and white printer. The book covers just don't pop out and attract attention when they aren't colorful. We need a small, color inkjet printer and ink to create interesting posters that attract attention.
