My school has a very unique population. We currently have 97% of the students receiving free lunch and 54% of our students qualify for special education. My school has come a long way since I first started there, violence is down and parent engagement has begun to rise. We still struggle to find new and exciting ways to teach all of our students, but especially students with disabilities. My class is an Integrated Co-teaching class. We have 25 amazing students, 12 of them with special needs. Many of my students live in shelters or with extended family in small accommodations. When students come to my classroom it seems like an escape for them. They are free of any worries they may have had and are allowed to be kids again. It is my job to make sure for those six hours, these students are loved, cared for, and taught.
