What I really teach is the humanities. So much of history can be told through artistic expression, poetry, and with cultural representation. An example of this would be painting with watercolors in the Egyptian painting style which is unique to their civilization. I would like to use glue to do Roman mosaics with construction paper and magazines. We are going to create various buildings representing the Greek columns and use this to represent various forms of government. Keeping seventh graders interested and motivated is no easy task, Plus, they love a chance to be creative, complete projects, and illustrate their work. Let's face it, students take a lot of tests and I would like to offer alternative ways to prove they know the material.
Integrating curriculum creates the magic in the classroom. By integrating literature with social studies through novels, short stories, and poetry, students have a greater understanding of the material. I hope to use the supplies on my list to bring a bit of sparkle to my classroom. And yes, glitter is on the list!
