My group of preschool students are beginning to explore their independence, as well as learning self-care routines that will remain a part of their lives long after preschool ends for them. I would love to be able to provide them with cubbies to enhance these areas. Students will be able to place and hang their items upon arrival. They can revisit their belongings if necessary throughout the day and at time to go home. We currently have to hang their items on hooks that are too high for them to reach on their own and I feel that it inhibits their confidence and independence to have to ask or wait for everything that they need.
Having their own personal space, and having that responsibility for their own belongings, will be something that they can take with them throughout their school careers and into their homes. I can just picture how proud they will be of themselves when they can take care of these few (what WE may consider simple) tasks.
