My students come from diverse backgrounds and are brought into our cluster site from their district school because they don't have the resources to support their social/emotional needs. The wobble chairs will allow my students the flexible seating they need to channel their energy in a positive way and allow them to keep their minds and bodies engaged so that they can be active learners. The sensory fidget tools and weighted blankets will help them refocus and provide support to them when they are angry, frustrated, and need to take a break. My goals is for them to use these calming tools such as the weighted blanket, gel fidgets, etc to self regulate their emotions and to handle their frustrations in a appropriate way rather than physical one.
Our goal is to teach these students how to self monitor their own emotions and for them to utilize the strategies we have in place and are teaching, modeling, and roleplaying with them on a daily basis. If we can achieve this goal, they will be successful students back at their districted school accessing an education they deserve. These materials are needed pieces of the puzzle we are trying to put together so that they are back in the mainstream accessing their education successfully.
