In our Exploring Science elective we concentrate on project based learning. Rather then give students a specific procedure to follow, we allow the students to develop their own procedures and work cooperatively in groups. Working in groups allows the students to share their strengths and receive guidance from peers on their weaknesses.
The Thames and Kosmos kits will engage students in designing their own structures and reflecting on their methods. These hands-on activities will get even the teens who are "too cool for school" thinking critically about engineering. Students will be able to work on the different kits at their own pace and compete with other students to judge their own success.
