Where would you like to sit? Flexible seating provides students an opportunity to choose a new place to read or work other than at a traditional desk and chair. I can see my students getting cozy on the couch or bean bag chairs, reading their latest find from the media center or sitting in beach chairs with clipboards writing their next adventure.
I believe having a welcoming environment is important to student learning. Students find it exciting when they can sit in a new and interesting chair as opposed to a traditional straight back chair. I have also discovered in my years of teaching that each student is different and each prefers their own "favorite" style of seating.
These different seating options will help create a fun and unique learning environment for my students. It will be an environment that will help students become excited about learning. I cannot wait to see my students actively engaged in their learning while sitting comfortably around the room.
